The local TV tells stories of hero's both young and old and while I'm not really wanting, needing or suggesting that I get a real slap on the back, nor anything, the history at least of the past 35 years in Idaho as most know it was created by or was made possible because of me or through my family. None of my family mostly my Mom nor Dad ever asked to be public figures nor celebrities. As far as myself I am not really seeking that either. But if it gets the tongues wagging at the water cooler or watering hole so be it. When my Dad had one of his near fatal heart attacks in Hazzard(Hagerman), shortly after we moved there in 1971 it was I that because of a lack of any real emergency help in that area at the time, I suggested and headed an effort to get on board a QRU or Quick Response Unit. Of course I was told I had a few bricks shy of a load for such a thought, but a few years after through money donated by my Dad, Mom and the Montgomery Foundation Hazzard hazz a QRU. When my Dad suggested and began work to create a full hole golf course and lodging place in Hazzard on the covering of an old dairy, Dad and I were told we were just thinking too much too fast. Guess what the place is there its called Frogs Lilly Pad. A full specialty restaurant , motel, and yes GOLF COURSE , 18 full holes worth. When I came up with the idea of a race track near Gooding Idaho I was told I was goofy, guess what? There be one there now. Radio station there? Its there and an LPTV station will be on there come this fall. Eastern Idaho is a stubborn mule when it comes to new ideas and concepts, and like Twin Falls, where pro growth was a nasty word just 15 years ago it took a few old farts on both city councils and County Commissioner seats to die off for the growth seen there now, most of that growth has came by the way, by sponsors of a little 4-H club I started in 1973 that has grown into a major trade organization and a membership of nearly 200,000 . Its not that I wanted self praise, but because I love Idaho. I was born here. I have walked on, driven on, horse back or tractor ridden on and flew over just about every square inch of this state. I have seen more things come and go, and most of which that has lasted I have had a hand in convincing to stay in Idaho. During the next Mayoral race in Pocatello, look to see me running as the only candidate of the National Confederate Party for Mayor of Pocatello. After who knows maybe the big seat in Boise called Governor. If I could only convince our local TV stations to do a thing on me it would be a great story.
