In the not distant past if one was in business you purtty much had 3 choices to get the word out about your business. Radio the best choice, but not visible, Newspapers, good but not good enough and had too few readers or a way to target those who would most likely buy your products, services etc. TV , not bad fully visible but out of the reach of most small advertisers, in most markets, and the troubles with producing an ad, finding talent if there was talent to be found, whether through an agency or a trip to the mall where you might find some sweet cheeks that might and the might is the word to be your poster gal on that TV spot. The trouble with TV talent back then was finding one of age and maturity to make the point stick in the eyes and minds of your targeted customer/. Then of course there was roadside billboards not bad but too much hassle in again finding some honey that looked hot enough to pose with a truck or an aircraft to put up on that sign that would capture the eyes of those trucking on by. Then came the internet, cable and satellite TV. Of the three there the internet although by today's standards is rather bland, misleading and most people unless that ad looks legit will not even bother clicking on it to see what its about. Cable and satellite TV is finding someone who really knows what is on those cable and satellite channels so YOU can target a demographic or customer. After all if your selling hot rod parts the old lady watching Lifetime or the WE channel most likely is going to do you no good. If your selling hot speed , the Speed Channel, Spike, CMT ESPN etc would be most likely where your ad should be placed. Problem is getting an ad that looks good to be on network TV especially Cable or satellite is going to take time, and if your in business time is not your friend. You need your ad out there now and making you money. Years ago business's like truck stops, truck shops, even agribusiness services like crop dusters like us at AyreWolf Aviation took the radio route. Overnight trucker radio shows from the Midnight Cowboy Network with Bill Mack, The Truckin Bozo with Steve Sommers and the RoadGang with Dave Nimo were where you placed ads for truck stops, truck shops, and such. For us at AyreWolf Aviation and the Dixie Diesel Shop we placed ads there as well as on farm report broadcasts. Back then there was local farm news shows, today there are two and they are not on radio much, nor is it local. So what are you to do? Go with an ad agency. But who ? And is that agency smart enough to put it all together? TV, Radio, some print, the Internet as well as other things you had not considered. But beware there are ad agencies and then there are ad agencies. Getting one who can learn or is willing to learn your product or service, and get it out where it will do you the most good is crucial if your going to spend your money smartly not stupidly. This past week I had the chance to visit with John Young of the John Young group here in eastern Idaho. To get things going for Dixie Towing, as well as the Dixie Diesel Shop and way on down the field for AyreWolf Aviation. I'm making my business a test bed for John to see if he can fill the bill not just send me one. If he does good for me then the road is open for him to be retained for and by the United American Independent Truckers Association, and all its siblings from the Hazzard County Knytes all the way to the BlackSheep Vintage Aviation Association. Now its not that I don't like messing with media and all hell I have been doing this TV thing on CH-12 here in Pocatello for 5 months now, and its starting to take hold, but beyond that and until our organization has its own radio/tv station up and going, my main mission in life is turning a wrench, going towing as well as flying. Not hearing from some idiotic TV station salesperson that I have to produce the spot, find the forking talent and put it all together myself. I just don't have that much time in my day. And quite frankly after December after I'm married that time will be cut drastically . So lets see what hauls with the John Young group. More L8R Aviator Cultivators
